Challenge
An Orange County homeowner wanted living plants surrounding the TV in a renovated entertainment space. The wall needed automated watering, minimal maintenance and an instant finished look, with no risk of irrigation water reaching the screen.
Results
A custom living wall that frames the TV and was finished the day the plants were hung. Irrigation runs automatically on its own zone, a gutter above the screen diverts water, and off-site planting kept the home free of mess.

Private Residence, Orange County
A home renovation in Orange County, California, with an entertainment space built around a wall-mounted TV. The living wall was designed as the focal point of that space.
The Challenge
This residential project in Orange County, California was part of a home renovation. The client wanted the entertainment space to have a focal point with more life than a screen on a plain wall: a custom living wall surrounding the TV, so the space offers something for everyone who uses it.
Putting irrigated plants around electronics sets a clear technical brief. We planned the wall around three criteria:
- Easy, automated watering and maintenance.
- No impact on the TV from running water.
- An instant result: a finished piece of living art on the day of installation.
The Solution
Structure and water management
We used our standard modular frame to carry the plants, fitted around the wall-mounted screen. Before any planting, the wall was fully waterproofed. Directly above the TV we built a simple gutter that diverts irrigation water away from the screen, so the wall can be watered as designed without putting the electronics at risk.

Automated irrigation
The wall's irrigation was tied into the property's existing irrigation system and given its own zone. Watering is fully automated and can be set for the wall independently of the other zones. Together with careful plant choices, that keeps maintenance to a minimum for the owner.
Design and planting
The planting was set out in a detailed design drawing and agreed with the client before installation. The drawing maps every plant position around the screen, with bands of contrasting foliage framing the TV, so the result on the wall matches what the client approved on paper.
All plants were planted into their pots and bags off-site and delivered directly to the client's home, then hung according to the drawing. That meant no planting mess on site, which matters in a newly renovated home, and it meant the wall looked complete as soon as the last plant was in place.

The Results
The wall was finished the day the plants were hung: green, burgundy and variegated foliage wrapping the screen on all four sides. We fully tested and commissioned the wall before handing it over to a very happy client.

What could have been a plain wall with a TV on it is now the highlight of the renovation. We call walls like this living artwork, and the description fits. The planting gives the space a focal point whether the screen is on or off, and the water management behind it means the client can enjoy both without thinking about either.
